Essential Questions:	What steps can a victim of bullying take to end the bullying? What can you do if you are a witness to someone being bullied? If you are a bully what can you do to stop that behavior?
Objectives:	Using Windows Movie Maker students will create a short movie. Each group will write a script, record and edit their movies. Each group will be scored based on a rubric provided to them. Tools and Resources:	Computer Windows Movie Maker
Rationale:	Bullying affects many people, but as we talked about before no one is helpless. This lesson will give bystanders and bully’s the tools they need to take a stand against bullying.

Anticipatory Questions/Activity:	Please take out your writing journals. I would like you to take the next several minutes to write in your journals. Here are today’s options for writing. Talk about a time when you were a witness to someone being bullied. If you would like you can change names to protect people’s identities. Talk about what you did, if anything, and how did it made you feel. Talk about a time when you may have bullied or teased someone. Talk about why you acted like a bully, how you think the other person may have felt as a result of your bullying and what you could have done differently.
Body of Lesson Plan: *Segment #1* (Artifact: link to real world, website, book, picture, etc.)	Today we are going to continue our talk about bullying. Yesterday we discussed what a victim of bullying can do to end a bullying situation. Today we are going to take on the perspective of the bystanders and the bullies. I have a youtube video I would like to share with you Bullying From a Bystanders Eyes Boys and girls how do you feel after watching that video? Why do you think people that are bystanders of bullying don’t speak up? Scared Don’t want to lose their friend Feel helpless Do you think most people that are bystanders of bullying are as guilty as the bullies? If so why? How do you think the bullies felt after the boy died as a result of their actions?
*Segment #2* (Factual information/Vocab Includes sample feedback loop)	People who study bullying tell us that in an average group of 20 students, one student bullies, one is the target of bullying and 18 are possible bystanders. Those 18 students probably all know about the bullying, even if they don’t see if every time. Signal with a “thumbs up” if you think 18 bystanders could stand up against bullying. A whole group of students has a lot of power when they’re watching someone act like a bully. Did you know that half the time when a bystander tell someone to stop bullying, he or she stops after just 10 seconds. What do you think happens if no one steps up? The bullying will continue. I am going to pass out a worksheet, “A Toolkit of Ways to Stop Bullying” Take a minute and read each idea, then decide if this would be a good option for the bystander, the victim of the bullying or the bully. Put an X mark in the boxes that best suits each idea. Review answers and briefly discuss each of the options. Looking at out toolkit, who has the most tools for stopping bullying? The Bystander. The Bully’s really only have one good option and that is to tell a trusted adult. Do you think bullies have the capability to stop or do you think once a bully always a bully? I think that everyone has the ability to end reckless behavior, if they choose to. It may be really difficult to end the bad behavior and they may need to get someone to help them but if they choose to they can stop. I want everyone to keep the Toolkit worksheet that way when you are in a situation and you’re not sure what you should do you can reference that toolkit for a possible solution. And remember you can always talk to me or any other trusted adult here at school or at home for help. We can help you come up with a plan.
*Segment #3* (Includes multiple intelligence strategy: Hands-on, small groups, reteaching strategy)	Write on the board “My Promise to Help End Bullying in Our School” I would like you to take a few minutes to think about what you can do to help end bullying. I have created a short video clip as an example. Here is my promise to help end bullying. My Promise To Help End Bullying Video Over the next few days, you will be making your own movie about your promise to end bullying.
*Segment #4* (Detailed directions on how to complete activity)	Before you can begin making your movie you will need to write your script. Your script should be at least one minute long. After you have written your script you will need to find images from the internet that will go along with your script. Save your images to the desktop. Log onto Windows Movie Maker from the start menu. Click on Import Media to import your pictures from the desktop. Drag the picture into the frames in the storyboard mode. Under Tools, click on titles and credits. You can insert these frames to add your text to. You can adjust the transition times between frames by clicking on the right edge of the picture when the red arrow appears drag it to the right to expand the time. To add background music you will need to select an appropriate music clip from the music folder on the c: drive. You will insert the music clip in the audio/music part of the timeline. When your movie is complete you will need to publish your movie to the computer. You will have an opportunity to share your movie with the class next week.
